Thank you very much.  Ginger bread STEM building challenge We were very innovative in their building ideas. We had to be very patient waiting for the glue (icing) to dry. We found out that it was easier to lean to crackers together, creating a more stable structure. What a fun afternoon! Way to go future engineers.  Ask me about: What was the hardest part about building your structure?  What was easiest? Story writing Students were given 4 pictures of 2 dogs playing, then they were asked to order them any way they wanted. Next students were to write a story based on what they thought was happening in each photo. We were focusing on adding uppercase letters and punctuation where appropriate. Students are encouraged to give their story "voice" and add juicy words to their sentences. Ask me about: What was your story about? What happened first? Then what happened? How will your story end? Mrs. Daniels class had a sequencing challenge today in order to demonstrate how we can work together respectfully to put the story of "Charlotte's Web" together. Great work everyone.!!! ***Mrs. Daniels class can you please bring in a plastic bag tomorrow so I can send home some sparkly art work ;) Report cards: Report cards will go home with students next week on December 19. Math In Math we have been practicing our addition skills using domino's and dice. Student's are asked to count how many dots on each domino and then add them together, making a number sentence. Some students chose to really challenge themselves and were adding very large numbers together. Later this week we will be rolling dice and adding those numbers together and making number sentences. We are practicing our addition skills as we will be applying our knowledge to solving and creating Math stories next week and into the new year. Literacy We have jumbled up our literacy groups this week. Some students are with the same teacher, others have moved to a different group. Our grouping system is designed to meet individual student's needs and target similar skills and strategies in reading. Students have the opportunity to work with different teachers throughout our literacy block to support and develop reading comprehension. Music Ask me about what Holiday songs ha

Math:  We are continuing to introduce formal addition and have been experimenting with addition games and using manipulatives (blocks or counters) to build our confidence when working with and writing addition sentences. We will be introducing the plus (+) and (=) signs and what they represent.  Literacy: We continue to work on our reading strategies in our morning literacy groups. Please encourage your child to use their strategies when practicing reading at home. For example, “looking to the pictures for a clue” or “sounding out the word”. Other strategies that may be useful are “skipping the word and reading on” then come back to see if the word makes sense after reading the whole sentence. We are beginning to talk about story sequencing and have experimented making comic strips to introduce story writing. Talk to your child after reading together about what happened first in the book? Then what happened next?   How did the story end? This will reinforce what we will
