Book Truck Tomorrow!!! Students with Calgary Public Library card will have the opportunity to check out books from the Book Truck. If your child still doesn't have the CPL card, they can register online at calgarylibrary.ca/card . Just a reminder to parents that book truck books can be returned to any city library to avoid late fees. They should not be returned to school as we have very few book truck visits. February Royal Oak Kindness Challenge!!! For the month of February, Royal Oak School is promoting the "Kindness Challenge" Students will be challenged to promote kindness, through actions thoughts and words. Every day in class we will be writing kindness notes to a special student. In lieu of sending store bought Valentines, students will be writing kindness notes and each student will bring home a bag of kind words on their day. Please talk to your child about the importance of kindness and how we can show kindness everyday. Needs and Wants In Inquiry, students are discussion the difference between Needs and Wants. Students brainstormed and discussed in small groups their personal needs and wants. Then, we discussed our community needs and wants. Ask your child what they believe is essential in our community and why. Toys, Watches and others distractions We are asking everyone to be thoughtful about the items in students’ backpacks. We all know that toys should not be brought into school, but also items that can become a distraction or reason for disagreements. For example, lately we noticed a few girls sharing bracelets, lip balm, necklaces and others items. First, lost or broken items result in very sad feelings. Second, it can result in discussions about the ownership of such items. Finally, it take away the attention and focus they should be directing to their learning.
