Literacy Night (today)

Royal Oak School is pleased to be hosting a ‘Literacy Night’ on Thursday, January 18th from 6:30-7:30pm. During this evening we will be exploring “Literacy in Your Life”, where you will be able to participate in and incorporate new and exciting literacy activities into your daily lives as a family.

To begin the evening we will have a quick stand-up assembly followed by a variety of sessions hosted by our teachers in different classrooms around the school. Resources and suggestions for each activity will be provided at each session. The Calgary Public Library and Calgary Reads will also be joining us this evening in the Gathering Space.

We look forward to spending a joyful and engaging evening of literacy with you and your families!

Literacy Week is happening next week from Jan 22nd to 25th. Each day there will be different literacy based activities taking place.

- Kick Off assembly 
- Wear your Royal Oak Blue clothing
Tuesday | Jan 23 - Read aloud with Ms. Sparks
Wednesday | Jan 24 - Buddy Reading Day
Thursday | Jan 25 - Pajama, Stuffy and bring a favourite book from home Day


Inquiry

We have continued our investigation into our community. Students had the opportunity to walk to the park between Royal Oak School and Willian D. Pratt School to look our neighbourhood and drew a few sketchings about what they could see. They noticed the different house styles, the mountains, a few buildings in Downtown, Canada Olympic Park and many others features of our community. Ask your child about what are the things they like the most in our neighbourhood.

****Home Reading****
Please send back clear home reading book bags every Tuesday and Thursday to get your new books! The volunteers exchange the books in the morning so it is important that students hand them in first thing when they arrive.

Skating Hello Royal Oak School Parents and Guardians! Your son and/or daughter will be bringing home a letter soon telling you about our Skating Activity that will take place March 14, 15 and 16 th . We are looking for several volunteers to help with tying skates, assisting on the ice, walking with classes from the school to the outdoor rink and helping with the skate shack. We are very fortunate to have booked the KidSport skate shack and we will need a few volunteers organizing and managing the skates and helmets. Friday Sept. 15th - Our week in review!

Happy Friday!! We have had a busy week! Check our mail folders today because we have our home journals to share. Please remember to write your child a little note back in the journal. In Math, we started working on the "Candy Problem". How many different ways can 3 kids share 8 candies? Take a look at how we organized our work on the Smartboard! We also worked on Sorting objects into groups. How many different ways can we sort buttons?? Shape, Size, Colour, Number of holes, etc. Important Reminders! **All blue forms that have gone home this week need to be returned ASAP.  **Conferences are on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Please book online ASAP and see the office if you do not have your My CBE account set up.  **Library books can be returned anytime. This week we will be setting up for the book fair so the students will NOT be taking out new books this week.
