Pumpkins wanted!!! If you are willing to donate a pumpkin to our classrooms please send in your pumpkin by Thursday this week with your child. We will be using the pumpkins to practice our Math strategies. We are going to measure, estimate and count all of the seeds! Thank you in advance. Photos Student Photos went home today or yesterday. You may order online or return orders to school.  Writing We have been working on our Grade 1 writing skills and making so much process. Students are using their phonetic writing (sounding out words) and gaining confidence in using appropriate finger spaces in our words. Some of us are beginning to add more detail to our writing and starting to use punctuation!  Inquiry We are learning about our senses this week and how they help us communicate with the world. Literacy This week in literacy students will be visiting different Grade 1 teachers for our school wide literacy block. Students will be working on developing their reading strategies in reading groups specific to their learning needs. Ask me about: Who was your literacy teacher today? We have begun learning about patterns in Math. We practiced making patterns we know with coloured blocks and by moving our bodies in a pattern. Here are some of the patterns we came up with. New Grade 1 Teacher -Royal Oak School is happy to welcome Mr. Pereira to our Grade 1 team. Mr. Pereira spent the day with Ms. Barley’s class today. He will be taking over for Ms. Barley as she goes onto maternity leave.  Her last day will be on Wednesday this week.  We wish her all the best with her exciting venture with her new little one. ****Home Reading**** -Please send back clear home reading book bags every Tuesday and Thursday,   first thing in the morning in order to get your new books!  Our lunch room volunteers change the books first thing in the morning.  We have been busy creating with our fall leaves.
